Day of Global Action Against Racism and for the Rights of Migrants

18 december 2011

On the occasion of the Day of Global Action Against Racism and for the Rights of Migrants, Refugees and Displaced People, Boats 4 People is mobilising in order to raise awareness of and condemn the situation affecting thousands of migrants who risk their lives attempting to cross the Mediterranean. Below you will find a list of events planned in Tunisia, the Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Germany and France.

Tunisia: 11.00: In front of the Italian embassy in Tunis - Demonstration of support and solidarity with irregular migrants and the families of the disappeared. 17.00: Show: « HAREK YETMANNA » (Social comedy by Raouf Ben Yaghlen) at the municipal theatre in Tunis.

Netherlands: 14.00: Hannekes Boom, Dijksgracht 4, Amsterdam - Concerts, films and speeches on the topic of migration in the Mediterranean. action film "boats4people at detention boats Amsterdam", verslag bezoeker concert en Facebook Boats4People NL

Here's a 3 min. film of the Dutch boats4people action. The police was blocking the harbour where the detention boats are located, but .... And three of the seven boats got a fine of 420 euros each. The benefit after was a big success with very good spirit and lots of intentions for Boats4People actions on the Mediterranean.

France: 15.00: March in solidarity with migrants. Information cart about the Boats 4 People project. To join us, meet at 14.30 on the corner of Rue Belleville and Rue Denoyez (outside the Aux Folies café).

Germany: 15.00 European Commission, Unter den Linden 78 : Action in front of the Representation of the European Commission with Human Rights Watch, SOS Rassismus/GRIPS-Theater and JOG (Jugendliche ohne Grenzen) ; 17.00 Allmende, Kottbusser Damm 25-26, U Hermannplatz - Warm buffet, Reports of being on the road‘ & against racism, presentation of the Boats4People action, Live broadcast Tunis-Berlin & Live music with translations. Organized by people (amongst others) from the networks afrique-europe-interact, boats4people, Borderline europe.

Belgium: Wednesday 21st December - 9.30 - CNCD-11.11.11 - 9, quai du Commerce, 1000 Brussels. The Migreurop network will be presenting its main activities for 2012 at a public meeting, based on the themes of detention, expulsion, the externalisation of migration controls, Frontex, maritime surveillance and readmission agreements, and will also present the Boats 4 People project.
